Reginald Mitchell, Sr., director of academic success and bar preparation for Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law (FAMU Law), has been named a Fellow for the American Council on Education (ACE). Mitchell is one of 53 nationwide, emerging college leaders selected to participate in the program.

The ACE Fellows program is a customized learning experience enabling participants to immerse themselves in studying and practicing leadership techniques. Participants experience the culture, policies, and decision-making processes of another institution and apply the skills at their home campuses.

“This is a tremendous honor,” said Mitchell. “I am hoping to learn and absorb everything I can that may one day allow me to become a campus leader.”

Mitchell's participation includes being hosted by Howard University and shadowing the university's president, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick.

Mitchell has held his current position since 2017 and previously served as an instructor for FAMU Law. In addition to holding several administrative and faculty positions within the University, he also diligently worked with Frederick Humphries, Ph.D., the University's eighth president, and Bishop Holifield, FAMU's former general counsel, to reopen FAMU Law in 2002.

The ACE fellow program condenses years of on-the-job experience and skills development into a single year. According to ACE, it is the most effective, comprehensive leadership development program in higher education with more than 80 percent of ACE fellows currently serving in leadership roles as chief executive officers, chief academic officers and deans.
