ORLANDO, Fla – Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law is hosting an Open House to showcase its new Economic Justice Clinic. The event takes place at 6 p.m. on January 25, at 201 FAMU Law Lane, Orlando, FL 32801.
“Black owned businesses have less access to loans, and often these loans are only available at much higher interest rates,” said Clinic Director Mark Dorosin. “FAMU Law’s Economic Justice Clinic is just one way to address economic disparities in our community as we help small and minority owned businesses.”
The clinic’s dual mission is to serve small and minority-owned businesses and nonprofits in the community and train the next generation of social justice lawyers.
The Economic Justice Clinic will provide support in the following areas:
Six Economic Justice Fellows have been selected to work in the clinic during the spring semester.
These students will gain valuable hands-on legal experience while offering a much-needed community service to our local businesses. The 2023 Fellows will be announced during the Open House.
Economic Justice Fellows are passionate about helping local businesses. They are trained to work with business tax problems, overwhelming transactional legal issues, incorporation paperwork, and more.
“My experience as a 2022 Economic Justice Fellow has been extremely rewarding,” said third-year student Zsa’Queria Martin. “It’s been a pleasure helping local businesses with much needed legal support, while gaining valuable hands-on experience.”
Those unable to attend the Open House can still get assistance by completing the intake form and submitting it.
The new clinic and the Economic Justice Fellowships were made possible in partnership and with generous support from Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.
