Transfer & Visiting Students

Applicants who plan to visit FAMU College of Law must be currently enrolled and in good standing at an ABA accredited law school. We welcome transfer students. The transfer student application process is very competitive, and first consideration is given to applicants who have performed extremely well at their current law schools.
Transfer applicants must complete their first year of law school prior to transfer. Students who plan to transfer into the full-time program must earn a minimum of 24 credits towards a law degree and may transfer up to 30 credits. Students who plan to transfer into the part-time program must earn a minimum of 20 credits towards a law degree and may transfer up to 30 credits.
Applications from students who have withdrawn or are on leave of absence from their current law school will be considered only if they have been out of law school for less than two academic years. Decisions are made by the Admissions Committee on a rolling basis and subject to space availability. If admitted, the law school will evaluate an applicant’s law school transcripts to determine which and how many credits will transfer and the required course of study to obtain a FAMU Law degree. FAMU Law will only accept transfer students at the beginning of each fall semester. Transfer students must register during fall orientation.
The FAMU College of Law application timeline for transfer applications is June 1 through June 30. The following must be submitted:
- A complete Application for Admission
- A $33 non-refundable application fee (The application fee is waived for Florida A&M University alumni.)
- A LSDAS Report. (The LSDAS code for FAMU College of Law is 5832.)
- At least one letter of recommendation (preference is given for a letter from a law school professor)
- An official law school transcript that includes your spring grades. This transcript must be submitted directly to the LSDAC . A letter of good standing from the Dean, or appropriate official, at your current law school
Applicants who plan to visit FAMU Law must be in good standing and currently enrolled at an ABA accredited law school. Visiting applicants will have their degrees conferred by their home institutions and must have a minimum of 30 credits towards their degree. Applicants may apply to either the part-time or full-time programs in any semester, including the summer session.
Decisions are made by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs on a rolling basis and subject to space availability. Visiting students are not eligible to receive financial aid from FAMU College of Law. Students should check with the Office of Financial Aid at their home institution to determine the home institution’s rules and business processes regarding financial aid for transient students.
The following must be submitted:
- A complete Application for Admission

- A CAS Report (The code for FAMU College of Law is 5832.)
- A letter of good standing from the Dean, or appropriate official, at your current law school. This letter must indicate approval from your current institution to take classes at FAMU College of Law and specify which classes will count towards your degree. The letter must also detail the conditions of your enrollment and the semester(s) for which you are approved to visit.

- Spring Semester: December 1
- Summer Session: May 1
