FAMU COLLEGE OF LAW RECOGNIZES CIVIL RIGHTS PIONEERS, COMMUNITY ADVOCATES AND RATTLERS FOR JUSTICE AT FIRST LEGACY AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIP GALA
ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s (FAMU) College of Law will host its first Legacy Awards and Scholarship Gala at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16, 2018 at Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Hotel, 1 Grand Cypress Blvd., Orlando FL, 32836.
The Legacy Awards and Scholarship Gala will highlight individuals who are continuing the FAMU legacy of standing for justice, including:
- John Due,civil rights attorney and 1966 FAMU Law graduate
- Bishop Holifield,former FAMU general counsel
- Fredrick Humphries, eighth president of FAMU
- Bernard and Shirley Kinsey,alumni, philanthropists and community advocates
The FAMU College of Law will also highlight the alumni who are amongst the first to be elected as judges in Central Florida since graduating from FAMU College of Law. The following will be recognized:
- HonorableKelly Ingram (Judge of the Seventh Circuit)
- Amy Carter (Judge-elect of the Ninth Judicial Circuit)
- Gabrielle Sanders (Judge-elect of the Ninth Judicial Circuit)
In addition to the honorees listed above, the FAMU College of Law will also recognize the first student Rattlers for Justice; three current FAMU Law students. Those students will receive full-tuition scholarships for one year in honor of their hard work and dedication as advocates and activists.
The event will take place during the Florida Classic Weekend.
