ORLANDO, Fla. – Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law students are gaining valuable, practical experience while helping those in need of tax prep this tax filing season.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $56,000 or less, persons with disabilities and limited English speaking taxpayers who need assistance in preparing their own tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
Under the direction of Professor Darryll Jones, FAMU Law is partnering with the Orlando Neighborhood Improvement Corporation and the United Way of Central Florida. He Said,
“This is an excellent opportunity for our students to give back to the community. The students who are participating in the VITA program are trained, certified and ready to assist with tax preparations.”
