FAMU Law Installs WeatherSTEM System to Provide Real Time Information about Storm Activity
ORLANDO, Fla –
Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law is now providing real-time smart weather technology through its newly acquired WeatherSTEM system. Not only will this weather system benefit FAMU Law students, faculty and staff, but it will be a great asset to the entire community.
The newly acquired weather system sits on top of the FAMU College of Law at 201 Beggs Avenue in Downtown Orlando.
Jerome Swaine, project coordinator with FAMU’s Facilities Planning, Construction and Safety Department was the liaison throughout the project, helping to identify where to deploy the systems and bring them online. “The WeatherSTEM system provides timely, potential life-saving information to the community with live streaming weather data, weather video and alerts, lightening proximity information and radar satellite imagery,” Swaine said.
Highlights of WeatherSTEM include current temperature, rainfall, pinpoint area lightning strikes, tropical systems, sun/Moon/Planets, live stream of downtown skyline and I-4, social media weather updates, air quality, wind chill, and much more.
“Smart weather technology is particularly important in a university setting because weather can vary dramatically over short distances,” said Ed Mansouri, chief executive officer of the Tallahassee-based WeatherSTEM. “Having a source of weather information being collected on campus helps the FAMU Law community understand, in real-time, weather related hazards that may be a threat, including high heat conditions, approaching storms and dangerous lightning.”
A WeatherSTEM app is being developed for use on i-phones. Additional WeatherSTEM systems are also installed at the FAMU main campus in Tallahassee and the Pharmacy campus in Crestview.
FAMU is the second Historically Black College and University to install this technology. Winston Salem State University also has one. There are also numerous WeatherSTEM systems installed throughout the Orlando area.

About FAMU College of Law
The FAMU College of Law is located in the heart of Downtown Orlando, just steps from the George C. Young United States Courthouse and Federal Building; and blocks from governmental offices, major law firms, large corporations and legal service agencies.
The college’s prime location provides students with direct access to the area’s largest employers of individuals with law degrees, offering our students and graduates ample avenues to gain practical experience in the legal profession.
With tuition among the lowest of the law schools in Florida, along with a full-time day program and a part-time evening program, the college is distinctly positioned to offer the traditional student and the working professional a chance to earn a law degree while accruing minimal debt.
Thanks to its renowned faculty, the college focuses on academic excellence in the classroom; emphasizes practical experience and public service within its clinical programs; and stresses professionalism through its co-curricular activities.
