ORLANDO, Fla – Some law students are finding out it pays to have a Juris Doctor or J.D. under their belts. In addition to using their J.D.s to practice law, many recent graduates are succeeding in jobs and professions that specifically cater to candidates with J.D.s, giving them a huge advantage over other job seekers.
“This event gave our students an excellent chance to learn the full range of possibilities for their degree,” said FAMU Law Assistant Dean, Office of Career Planning and Professional Development, Randolph Reliford. “We also enjoyed the opportunity to bring J.D. and other career professionals into FAMU Law to network with our students.”
In 2018, J.D. Advantage jobs accounted for 12.5 percent of the jobs law students took after graduation nationwide. From the Class of 2018, 14.5 percent of FAMU Law students took J.D. Advantage jobs.
On Thursday, October 17, FAMU Law students heard from career professionals representing multiple companies, agencies and organizations that hire candidates with law degrees. The professionals each gave a presentation before hosting a table where they answered individual questions asked of them.
FAMU Law’s Office of Career and Professional Development facilitated this event.

About FAMU College of Law
The FAMU College of Law is located in the heart of Downtown Orlando, just steps from the George C. Young United States Courthouse and Federal Building; and blocks from governmental offices, major law firms, large corporations and legal service agencies.
The college’s prime location provides students with direct access to the area’s largest employers of individuals with law degrees, offering our students and graduates ample avenues to gain practical experience in the legal profession.
With tuition among the lowest of the 13 law schools in Florida, along with a full-time day program and a part-time evening program, the college is distinctly positioned to offer the traditional student and the working professional a chance to earn a law degree while accruing minimal debt.
Thanks to its renowned faculty, the college focuses on academic excellence in the classroom; emphasizes practical experience and public service within its clinical programs; and stresses professionalism through its co-curricular activities.                              Â
