Foundations for Law School Success (“Foundations”) is a 10-day “boot-camp” style program designed to help new students build a strong foundation, before the start of their rigorous law school journey.   Foundations will take place August 1, 2017 through August 12, 2017.  During Foundations, students will be provided an administrative and student services overview, as well as actively participate in a professionalism program and community service project.  In addition, students will participate in a series of critical skills workshops called Essentials.  It is a well-established fact that new law students are often surprised by the overwhelming amount of reading for each class, vagueness of the law and cases, the different class formats, course grading, volume of writing assignments, and in general the amount of work required to be a successful law student.    In recognition of the preceding, and the College of Law’s commitment to student success, a major goal of Foundations is to serve as a bridge between a commitment to learn and the tools necessary to fulfill that commitment.  Through a building block approach, Essentials is designed to help aid in students’ transition to law school, as well as introduce new students to the demands and requirements of law school.  During the Essentials workshops, students will assess their previous educational experiences and academic needs, while acquiring the core critical skills needed to build a strong foundation by which they can reach their full potential and achieve law school success.

While Foundations will provide entering students with an overview of a few key administrative offices, there are several more vitally important departments that are eager to welcome students to the FAMU College of Law. The leaders of our various administrative departments have prepared the following letters to officially greet you and outline the services they provide. Feel free to review the letters and to stop by the departments once you arrive on campus.
