Mweni Ekpo has been passionate about law school admissions since her own admission to law school.  She is particularly honored and excited to join Florida A&M University College of Law at this important time in the law school’s history.

Dean Ekpo was reared in Jackson, Mississippi, and is a proud graduate of Tougaloo College, a private, historically black liberal arts college in Tougaloo, Mississippi.  While at Tougaloo, Dean Ekpo majored in English and Music and participated in such campus activities as the College Choir and the Student Government Association.  She was also elected as First Runner-Up to Miss Tougaloo College.  Immediately following college, Dean Ekpo pursued her long-time dream of becoming an attorney by attending Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, Indiana.  While in law school, she served as Articles Editor of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies and served as an Executive Board member of the Black Law Students Association.

Since law school graduation, Dean Ekpo has had a diverse and interesting career path.  Her previous professional experience includes work in corporate America (Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, where she was Assistant Counsel) and athletics administration (the National Collegiate Athletic Association, where she was Associate Director of Membership Services/Division III Governance liaison).  Most recently, Dean Ekpo worked at the University of North Carolina School of Law (where she was Director of Admissions) and at Case Western Reserve University School of Law (where she was Assistant Director of Admissions and Student Services).

In her spare time, Dean Ekpo enjoys eating, relaxing, and watching reality TV.  She is an avid fan, alum, and judge of the Miss America Scholarship Organization.

Freda Coleman-Jackson developed a love for learning as a young child growing up in Northwest Florida.  Her desire for knowledge led her to seek a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science at Florida A&M University.  Ms. Coleman-Jackson attended FAMU as a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship recipient.  While at FAMU, she participated in the University Honors Program and produced the campus television show “On the Hill with the NAACP”.

Ms. Coleman-Jackson continued her studies at the University of Florida as a participant of the FAMU Feeder Program.  During this time, she served as the Graduate Assistant of Student Judicial Affairs.  Upon completion of her Masters of Education degree, Ms. Coleman-Jackson enrolled in law school at Mercer University.

As the recipient of the Walter F. George Public Service Scholarship at Mercer, Ms. Coleman-Jackson participated in numerous public interest legal activities and interned with Legal Services of North Florida.  She was also an executive member of the Black Law Students Association and the Legal Aid Volunteer Association.

Prior to joining the College of Law, Ms. Coleman-Jackson was the Associate Manager/Marketer of the Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions Center in Tallahassee, FL.  In her new role as Assistant Director of Admissions, she is excited about meeting students and helping them navigate the law school admissions process.

Outside of work, Ms. Coleman-Jackson enjoys playing the clarinet and traveling.  She often returns to her hometown of Shalimar, Florida, to speak with middle school and high school students about the benefits of attending college and pursuing educational opportunities.
