On behalf of our students, faculty and staff, I want to thank you for expressing an interest in Florida A&M University College of Law – a law school with a rich history and promising future. Our prestigious past dates back to our founding in Tallahassee in 1949 and was affirmed with our re-establishment in Orlando in 2002.
Within a short period of time, we have achieved several milestones: the granting of provisional accreditation by the American Bar Association in 2004; the opening of a state-of-the-art facility in 2006; and the education of more than 200 attorneys and legal scholars to date.
Our list of accomplishments is bound to grow, as we seek to make a major impact on the practice of law in Florida and across the country. A renowned faculty, diverse student body and stellar administration blend to form a law school community where intellectual freedom and self-discovery are encouraged. We focus on academic excellence in the classroom; emphasize practical experience and public service within our clinical programs; and stress professionalism through our co-curricular activities.
We remain committed to our mission “to provide a law program with high academic standards that produce excellent legal professionals who demonstrate professionalism, provide public service, enhance justice and promote scholarship; to provide a program that offers full-time and part-time learning opportunities to students, and consistent with the enabling legislation, to increase representation of minorities within the legal profession.”
I invite you to learn more about the FAMU College of Law as we continue to build a legacy of academic excellence and legal advocacy.
Sincerely,
Leroy Pernell, Dean
