Visiting Student Policy

Florida A&M University College of Law will consider applications from students wishing to visit for one or two semesters. Visiting applicants will have their degrees conferred by their home institutions and must have a minimum of 30 credits towards their degree.

Applicants wishing to visit FAMU Law must currently be enrolled and in good standing at an ABA accredited law school. Applicants may apply to either the part-time or full-time programs for the Fall or Spring semesters or the Summer session. The following must be submitted:

• A letter of good standing from the Dean or appropriate official at your current law school. This letter must indicate approval from your current institution to take classes at FAMU College of Law and that these specific classes will count towards your degree. The letter must also detail the conditions of your enrollment and the semester(s) for which you are approved to visit. 
• An official law school transcript sent directly to the FAMU Law admissions office.
• A completed Application for Admission, along with a $33 non-refundable application fee. The application fee is waived for Florida A&M University alumni.
• A CAS Report. Note that the code for FAMU College of Law is 5832.
• Two personal statements (please refer to the FAMU Law application for personal statement instructions).
• At least one letter of recommendation from a law school professor at your current institution.

Applications must be submitted and completed by the following deadlines:

          Fall: July 15

          Spring: December 1

          Summer: May 1

Decisions will be based on law school performance and reasons for attending FAMU Law. All decisions are made on a rolling basis and are subject to the availability of space. 

Visiting students are not eligible to receive financial aid at FAMU College of Law.  Students should check with the Office of Financial Aid at their home institution to determine the home institution’s rules and business processes regarding financial aid for transient students.
