ALUMNA/ALUMNUS OF THE YEAR

Presented to a FAMU College of Law graduate who has achieved outstanding success in his or her chosen field and has shown the greatest commitment to the improvement of the College of Law. Recipient should have demonstrated extraordinary service to the College of Law and to the profession through volunteerism or pro bono. It is essential that you describe your nominee’s accomplishments in terms of number of community organizations he/she is involved with, and the leadership positions they hold within each organization; number of pro bono clients/hours served each year; dollars and/or hours contributed to the FAMU College of Law.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • In what ways has the nominee served the College of Law, its students and its alumni?
  • Highlight professional/personal accomplishments that the nominee has achieved.
  • Has this nominee had a substantial impact on the profession and/or community in which he/she has been active?
  • In what ways has the nominee’s achievements been truly extraordinary?
  • How has the nominee exemplified the College of Law’s mission through his/her service?


PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD

Presented to FAMU College of Law graduates whose accomplishments and contributions have enhanced the school and the profession of law at the local, state, national or international level. Recipients should demonstrate one or both of the following: excellence in the practice of law and/or the high ideals of the legal profession. Individual Professional Excellence Awards will be given to graduates in the following areas of employment: Solo Practitioner, Law Firm, Government and Corporate/Private Industry.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • What professional accomplishments has the nominee achieved?
  • How has the nominee demonstrated a commitment to the community?
  • How has the nominee displayed outstanding leadership and achievement in their chosen profession?


PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD

Presented to a FAMU College of Law graduate who has made a significant contribution to his or her community through volunteerism or pro bono work. It is essential that you describe your nominee’s accomplishments in terms of number of community organizations he/she is involved with and the leadership positions they hold within each organization, as well as number of pro bono clients/hours served each year.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • How has the nominee contributed to making his/her community better?
  • Has this service been sustained over an extended period of time?
  • How has the nominee exemplified the College of Law’s mission to serve the needs of traditionally underserved people and communities through his/her service?


EXTRAORDINARY SERVICE TO FAMU COLLEGE OF LAW

Presented to a FAMU College of Law graduate whose deeds and actions reflect the importance of his or her educational training, pride and loyalty to the school as demonstrated through his or her interest and support in the affairs of the College of Law.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • In what ways has the nominee served the College of Law, its students and its alumni?
  • In what ways has this service been truly extraordinary?
  • How has this service benefited the law school? Has this service been sustained over an extended period of time? If so, how long?


YOUNG ALUMNI AWARD

Presented to members of the FAMU College of Law’s 2012, 2013, and 2014 graduating classes who have distinguished themselves after three to five years in practice and have made an impact in their communities through service and a commitment to the law.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • Did the nominee achieve an exceptional level of service while balancing the demands of being a recent graduate? Please provide specific examples.
  • In what ways has the nominee served the College of Law, its students and its alumni?
  • How has the nominee contributed to making his/her community better?
  • How has the nominee exemplified the College of Law’s mission through his/her service?


RISING STAR AWARD

Presented to members of the FAMU College of Law’s 2015 and 2016 graduating classes who have distinguished themselves after less than two years in practice and have made an impact in their communities through service and a commitment to the law.

Nominations should answer the following questions:

  • Given that the nominee is a recent graduate, what qualities set the nominee apart from his/her peers?
  • Did the nominee achieve an exceptional level of service while balancing the demands of being a recent graduate? Please provide specific examples.
  • In what ways has the nominee served the College of Law, its students and its alumni?
  • How has the nominee contributed to making his/her community better?
  • How has the nominee exemplified the College of Law’s mission through his/her service?


ELIGIBILITY

  • A nominee must be graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University College of Law.
  • Employees (faculty and staff) of FAMU College of Law are not eligible for consideration.
  • Members of the selection committee and gala chairperson are not eligible for consideration. Nominees must be able to participate in the awards ceremony.
